Horchata

Ingredients

  • 1 cup long grain rice
  • 2 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 1 star anise (2 for stronger taste)
  • 1/4 cup fresh almonds (sliced)
  • 2 cup water
  • 1/2 can sweetened condensed milk (can in video is 14oz, so 7oz)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 cup whole milk

Instructions

  • Combine rice, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and almost and toast them (oven or fire, /shrug)
  • Combine the toasted ingredients with 2 cups water
    • let stand for 6 hours
  • To a blender, add:
    • the combined water + toasted ingredients
    • 1/2 can condensed milk
    • 1/2 cup white sugar
    • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
    • 1 cup whole milk
  • Blend! Then strain out the biggest pieces with a rice strainer
  • Add 1 more cup of whole milk for creamy, 1 cup of water if you don't
  • Serve over ice garnished with cinnamon stick!
